TV and Film Catering at Elstree: What Productions Need to Know
How production catering works at Elstree Film Studios — from unit catering and craft service to wrap parties and on-set hospitality. What to expect and how to organise it.
Production catering is different from event catering
Feeding a film or TV production is fundamentally different from feeding guests at an event. Crew members are working to a tight schedule — meal breaks are fixed windows, not leisurely occasions. The food needs to be available quickly, accommodate a wide range of dietary requirements, sustain people through long physical days and be reset and ready again within minutes. Quality matters too: the crew's energy and morale are directly connected to how well they are fed.
Unit catering vs craft service
Unit catering refers to the main meals served to cast and crew — breakfast, lunch and dinner runs depending on the shoot schedule. Craft service is the continuous grazing station that is available on set throughout the day: snacks, fruit, hot drinks, pastries and light bites that keep energy levels up between meals. At Elstree, we provide both from our dedicated on-site kitchen, meaning no external suppliers, no logistics delays and no food that has been sitting in a van for three hours.
Working around production schedules
A production's schedule is the non-negotiable around which everything else must flex. We build our service entirely around your call sheet — meals are ready when you need them, not when it is convenient for us. Early calls, late finishes and schedule changes are part of the job, and our team is experienced in absorbing them without affecting the quality or timing of the food service.
Wrap parties and premiere events
End-of-production celebrations are a tradition in the industry, and Elstree Film Studios is a natural home for them. The Main Hall accommodates up to 600 guests for a standing party, with the full Soul Studio food and bar offering available. We have hosted wrap parties for major productions including shows for the BBC and ITV, with bespoke menus, themed bars and styling that reflects the production itself.
Requesting a production catering quote
Production catering quotes are based on crew numbers, shoot duration, meal requirements and service format. The earlier you get in touch in the pre-production process, the better placed we are to build a service that genuinely fits your schedule. Contact us via the enquiry form or at hello@soulstudioevents.com with your production details and preferred start date.
