Working Lunch Catering in Hertfordshire: The Complete Guide

What to look for when ordering working lunch catering for your office or meeting — from lead times and dietary requirements to drop-off vs staffed service, and what it should cost per head.

What is working lunch catering?

Working lunch catering covers everything from a simple sandwich delivery for a team meeting to a full staffed buffet for a boardroom away-day. The defining feature is that the food comes to you — whether that's your office, a meeting room or an off-site venue. It is different from event catering in that it needs to be efficient, allergen-compliant and practical to eat in a working environment.

Drop-off vs on-site staffed service

Drop-off catering arrives packaged and ready to serve, with serving utensils, napkins and recyclable platters included. It requires no staff on your side beyond someone to lay it out. This suits informal team lunches, training days and smaller meetings. On-site staffed service means our team arrives 60 to 90 minutes before your lunch, sets up a proper buffet or family-style spread and stays for the duration. This is the better option for client meetings, board lunches and away-days where presentation matters.

What should working lunch catering cost?

For drop-off catering in Hertfordshire, expect to pay between £7.50 and £30 per head depending on the tier. A basic sandwich and crisps package starts at £7.50 per head. A full working lunch with salads, boards, desserts and a grazing table runs to around £30 per head. Staffing for on-site service is quoted separately. Our minimum order is £150, which works out to approximately 8 guests on the entry tier.

Lead times and ordering

Most working lunch caterers in Hertfordshire require at least 48 to 72 hours notice for a standard lunch order. We ask for 72 hours across all our lunch tiers, and 24 to 48 hours for breakfast depending on the tier. For larger groups of 40 or more, a week's notice is recommended. Orders placed with less than 24 hours notice cannot typically be accommodated.

Dietary requirements and allergens

Any reputable working lunch caterer should be able to provide vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options as standard, and should confirm all 14 statutory allergens in writing on request. When ordering, always share your guest dietary requirements upfront rather than as an afterthought — this affects how the menu is prepared, not just labelled.
